How it Works

Step 4 — Your Initial Design

Once your project begins, I’ll develop the existing conditions and begin working through the initial design.

Depending on your project, this may include:

• Space planning and functional layouts

• Cabinetry and millwork design

• Furniture planning and placement

• 3D renderings

• Finish and material planning

• Technical drawings and documentation

The initial design is where we establish the overall layout, proportions, scale, and massing of the space. At this stage, renderings may use placeholder colors, materials, and finishes while we focus on getting the overall design right.

For cabinetry projects, the initial design establishes the overall cabinetry layout and massing. Detailed elements such as drawer configurations, storage accessories, trash and recycling locations, and other interior cabinetry details are refined as the design progresses.

Once the initial design is ready, I’ll reach out to schedule a meeting to walk through it together. Depending on the project, this meeting may be virtual or in person and can range from approximately 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.

Step 5 — Review, Mark Up & Revise

After our initial design meeting, I’ll send you the current drawings to review. You’ll have the opportunity to mark up the drawings and send me one consolidated list of any additional changes or questions that come to mind as you review them. I’ll combine these with the notes I already have from our meeting and work through everything together.

I typically ask that you return your notes within one week so we can keep your project moving. If you need more time, that's completely okay—just let me know so we can adjust the schedule accordingly.

Step 6 — Revised Design Review

Once I’ve incorporated your feedback, we’ll meet again to review the revised design. This meeting is typically 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the scope and complexity of the project and will be held virtually.

This is where we continue refining the design and working through the details. For cabinetry projects, this is also when we begin getting into more specific storage and cabinetry configurations based on your needs and preferences.

At the conclusion of this meeting, your midpoint payment is due. Once received, I will continue with the remaining design development and final documentation. I’ll also send you the updated drawings we reviewed during our meeting. If you have any additional notes beyond our meeting notes, I typically ask that you return your notes within one week of our call.

Two rounds of revisions are included in the standard design process. A complete redesign or substantial change to the original project scope may require additional design services.

Step 7 — Final Design Review

Once the design is finalized, we’ll schedule a final design review to ensure the drawings and design details accurately reflect the anticipated design before the completed package is released.

For cabinetry projects, this is also an opportunity to confirm that final detailed drawings reflect the intended cabinet sizes, drawer configurations, storage solutions, and other project-specific details.
The final design review is typically 30 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the scope and complexity of the project. Once the final design is approved, the final payment is due before the completed deliverables are released.

Step 8 — Final Deliverables

Once the project is complete and final payment has been received, your completed design package will be delivered via email.

Depending on your project, this may include:

• Final floor plans and layouts

• Cabinetry and millwork drawings

• Interior elevations

• 3D renderings

• Finish schedules and material specifications

• Furniture and furnishings specifications

• Relevant technical documentation for contractor pricing and construction

Clients are responsible for downloading and securely archiving their final files. Files will be available for a limited time following a project completion.

Step 9 — Furniture & Furnishings

If furniture and furnishings are part of your project, the selection and procurement process will begin at the conclusion of the design process. This allows your contractor to get started on the space while we focus on the next phase of your project.

We’ll discuss your style, preferences, functional needs, and budget before I begin sourcing.

You’ll receive a personalized PDF with approximately 4–6 options for each furnishing type needed, along with item pricing and links to review the products yourself.

Once you’ve made your selections, I’ll prepare an all-in estimate that includes the furnishings and applicable procurement, freight, receiving, delivery, and design fees.

You’ll approve the estimate before anything is ordered. Once payment has been received, I’ll place the order and coordinate the procurement process through delivery.

Step 10 — Construction & Beyond

Once your design package is complete, you can move forward with your chosen contractor.

And if you’d like continued support, I don’t necessarily disappear once the drawings are finished. Additional design coordination can include contractor communication, product coordination, showroom appointments, furniture selection and procurement, installation coordination, and other design support as your project moves forward. These services are available on an hourly basis at $150/hour and are invoiced separately as services are completed.

You’re always welcome to work with contractors and suppliers of your choosing, or I can provide recommendations from my network when requested.

You are never required to use a contractor or vendor from my network. I’m always happy to provide recommendations when requested, but clients are responsible for conducting their own due diligence and making their own decisions regarding contractors, vendors, and service providers.

A Few Things to Know

• Communication: Email is our primary method of project communication, so we have a clear record of decisions, revisions, selections, and approvals.

• Your Timeline: I’ll keep you updated throughout the process and let you know what I need from you to keep things moving. Project timelines are estimates and may shift based on complexity, revisions, response times, product availability, and furnishing lead times.

• Your Files: Final files are delivered electronically. Clients are responsible for downloading and securely archiving their completed project documents.

• Your Design: Lauren Rebecca Interiors retains ownership of original design materials. Clients receive a limited license to use final design documents for their specific project upon full payment.
